Recap of our fall season 2017

The UConn Club Triathlon Team raced in 3 NECTC recognized races this past fall season. We started our season in Lake George New York competing at the Lake George Triathlon Festival. The team had an awesome race and placed 2nd overall. The next race we competed in was the Buzzard’s Bay Sprint Triathlon in Westport Massachusetts. This was the first time the whole team competed at this race. Rocky water conditions shorted the swim, but made for a very fun time swimming through giant waves. The last race we competed in was the Westchester Triathlon in Rye New York. The team placed 3rd. This was also the UConn Club Triathlon Team alumni race. Alumni were invited to come, race along side the team, and enjoy a team reunion BBQ following the race. A big thank you goes out to Jennifer Rattray and her family for hosting this wonderful event.

Overall we had a very successful season. We had many new members joining the team and we are optimistic about our trip to Nationals in Alabama in 2018.

Recap on our Season

Our team had a record-breaking season. 20+ new and returning athletes competed in 5 of our conference races. In the end of the season, the women’s team placed 1st, the men’s team placed 4th, and the overall team placed 2nd. Additionally, our Coach, Becky Bryant, received NECTC Coach of the Year! Great season everyone!

This Past Weekend

This past weekend:

-14 hardworking athletes, 1 dedicated coach, 1 awesome spectator/personal motivator, and 1 yellow lab drove 15 hours to Clemson, SC for the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championship

-8 athletes competed in the event for the first time

-3 athletes did their first ever triathlon with the UConn Tri Club

-The women’s team was ranked 21st, men’s team 29th, and the combined team was ranked 18th in the country. These were all significantly better than last year’s performance.

I’ve spent a lot of this semester caught up in school work and other things, and this was such a great reminder of why we’re all a part of this team, as well as how important it is to take a step back and appreciate the hard work you’ve put in.

It’s hard for me to believe that the team was formed less than 5 years ago, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.
